The National Programs of
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Go-to-High School, Go-to-College
Established in 1922, the 'Go-to-High-School, Go-to-College' program emphasizes the critical importance of completing both secondary and higher education as a pathway to success. Research consistently shows that educational attainment is the strongest predictor of future economic stability, particularly for young African-American men. Through this initiative, participants gain valuable information and strategies to support academic achievement, while benefiting from the mentorship and example of accomplished Alpha men.
A Voteless People Is A Hopeless People
A Voteless People is a Hopeless People' was launched as a national program of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity in the 1930s, during a time when African Americans were systematically denied the right to vote through poll taxes, intimidation, and a lack of access to voter education. For more than 65 years, this initiative has remained focused on voter education, registration, and mobilization. In the 1990s, the program expanded to include political awareness and empowerment through town halls, issue forums, and candidate engagement.
Today, in the face of renewed threats to voting rights, gerrymandering, misinformation, and efforts to suppress the Black vote, 'A Voteless People is a Hopeless People' remains critically important. This initiative not only encourages civic participation but also equips our communities with the tools to navigate and challenge systemic barriers—affirming that an informed and engaged electorate is essential to protecting democracy and advancing justice for Black people in America.
Project Alpha
Since 1980, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. has partnered with the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation to implement Project Alpha—a collaborative initiative designed to educate, motivate, and equip young males, ages 12–15, with the knowledge and skills needed to make informed decisions about sexual health, relationships, and personal responsibility.
Project Alpha delivers current and accurate information through a series of interactive workshops and educational sessions led by Alpha Phi Alpha brothers, who serve as positive male role models and mentors. The program focuses on issues such as teen pregnancy prevention, sexually transmitted infections, healthy relationships, and the role of men in family and community life.
The three core goals of Project Alpha are:
• Sharing Knowledge: Combating ignorance and fear with factual, age-appropriate information.
• Changing Attitudes: Inspiring positive shifts in values and sexual decision-making.
• Providing Skills: Building self-esteem and a sense of empowerment through practical tools and strategies.
Program Highlights:
• Targets young males (ages 12–15) with education on sexuality, fatherhood, and healthy relationships.
• Encourages participants to define their goals and values and make choices that align with them.
• Develops life skills through role-playing exercises and mentor-led discussions.
